What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease is a bacterial infection of the gum tissues (gingiva) and supporting structures of the teeth; alveolar bone and ligaments.  Some common signs and symptoms include; bleeding when brushing, swollen and red appearance along the gumline, gums sore to touch and bad breath. There are 2 stages of gum disease - gingivitis and periodontitis.
