Preventative Care

Our dental hygienists play an integral role in our dental practice; they are responsible for helping our patients maintain optimum oral health through preventative care.  Oral health is particularly important as recent studies have found a link between gum disease and systemic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

Our dental hygienists are all registered professionals with the Dental Board of New South Wales and regularly attend courses to keep abreast of the latest technology and techniques.  Our hygienists are members of the Dental Hygienist Association of Australia.

Your preventative care visits begins with one of our hygienists performing an assessment and evaluation of your periodontal health (gum health) from this evaluation our hygienists will prepare a personalised plan and/or course of treatment necessary to keep your oral hygiene at its best.  Our hygienists and the ADA recommend our patients visit us every 6 months however some patients may need more frequent visits.

Our hygienist will then begin "cleaning your teeth" by performing procedures such as hand scaling, ultra-sonic scaling, prophylaxis (polishing) and applying a topical fluoride to prevent decay.  Our hygienist will also instruct and demonstrate for you a customized home care routine.

Our hygienist will inform you of the latest dental products on the market which may aid you in your home care, which you can purchase at the practice.

For our periodontal patients our hygienists record gum measurements to aid us in monitoring your condition thoroughly and perform a procedure known as root planing, where the hygienists clean deeper below the gums in conjunction with your specialist periodontist.

All of our hygiene patients leave with a "goodie bag".
